Recognized for Contributions to Global Technology Standards
- 2 minutes read - 336 wordsI am honored to share that I recently received a Letter of Appreciation recognizing my contributions to international standardization activities at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
The recognition was conveyed through the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, acknowledging my contributions made via National Working Group 20 (NWG-20) to ITU-T Study Group 20 (SG20) meetings in 2025, 2026.

What Was Recognized
The appreciation recognizes my technical contributions to two proposals that were officially accepted as New Work Items:
- ITU-T Y.metalD — Framework and requirements for identity visualization in and across the metaverse
- ITU-T YSTR.IoT-PGMS — Potential requirements for IoT-based Perishable Goods Monitoring System
These initiatives contribute toward global standards in IoT ecosystems, metaverse technologies, digital twins, and smart sustainable cities.
The Journey Behind the Recognition
This recognition reflects a broader journey combining engineering practice, research, and community engagement.
My book 📕 Exploring the Metaverse explores many of the same challenges addressed in standardization work — interoperability, digital identity, and responsible evolution of immersive technologies. Alongside this, I have been actively involved in technical discussions, ITU knowledge-sharing sessions, and community initiatives focused on emerging technologies.

Why Standards Matter
Innovation becomes truly impactful only when it scales globally. International standards help ensure technologies remain interoperable, trustworthy, and accessible across industries and countries.
Receiving this appreciation is both an honor and a reminder of the collective responsibility technologists share in shaping an open and collaborative digital future.
Acknowledgements
This achievement was made possible through the guidance of Mr. R. S. Singh, Dy. Director General (IoT), TEC, DoT, Ministry of Communications, India and the dedicated TEC team. My sincere gratitude to Prof. M. Manivannan, the MIPS community, and my colleagues at Thoughtworks for their constant encouragement and support.
I look forward to continuing contributions toward building interoperable ecosystems across AI, XR, IoT, and spatial computing.
Keep learning, keep contributing, and keep sharing!
