Metaverse is the most talked, understood and misunderstood topic these days, and every other industry today is trying to define it in their own way to suit their narrative. It would end up creating many sub-metaverses, with different sets of features and, would lead to confusions, and conflict of interests. Acceptable definition of Metaverse will evolve with time. At this stage, I treat the metaverse as a result of technological evolutions in the key areas such as ARVR, AI, Cloud, Blockchain, 5G/6G and hardware. Metaverse adoption will also depend on the further evolution of these technological areas. In fact, the metaverse is touted to be the next natural step in the evolution of the internet with use cases to boot - as The Next Internet or Web 3.0.
Every evolution comes with its own pros and cons, the same is also true the metaversal evolution, it matures with time. It is important for the leaders in enterprises, governments, institutions, educators and people to join hands, give the metaverse a right shape and direction. We need to create awareness about the metaverse, define best practices, and standards, to adopt it ethically.
I tried to define Metaverse, its evolution, usage and concerns in my earlier articles - Getting into the Metaverse - Part1, Getting into the Metaverse - Part2 and Getting into the Metaverse - Part1. I have written foreword for the below book, that can help you understand the metaverse terminologies.
We need to first understand the terminology to speak a language in the context. I appreciate Author Mr. Ravindra Dastikop for taking a step forward and collecting 300+ terms and coming up with a book “Metaverse Glossary”. This book will help in creating awareness about the metaverse, and let people talk about it. Metaverse is a very vast topic, and the “Metaverse Glossary" book covers a variety of terms from history, busineses, user experience design, development, tools, and techniques. People can easily traverse through it and speak the language of metaverse.
The book covers good details with images and source references, It has QR Code for each reference, that can be directly accessed in the mobile phone.
The Author Mr. Ravindra Dastikop is an educator, and 30+ years of experience and promote the power of technology among everyone - students, larger community. Currently, he is specializing in Metaverse and creating awareness about its transformational power. He also runs a stream series on Crater.Club on the Metaverse covering all its aspects and from all angles. He maintains Metaverse Matters - a popular blog, and conducts metaverse related workshops and courses to professionals, engineering and management students and teachers.
