It was more than eight years ago when I was looking for a change, that led me to an organisation whose name was relatively unknown to me at the time, but its interview process left a lasting impression. People around me who knew it, made me realise where exactly I was landing—the microservices concepts I had been talking about all the time, the Agile practices we were trying to live, XP, and even the Selenium and Martin Fowlers of the world.

Recently, I had the privilege of contributing as a Rapporteur to a technical report on the Metaverse, produced by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, in collaboration with XTIC, IIT Madras. It was an honour to be part of the Metaverse Working Group of India, working alongside distinguished leaders and experts from industry, academia, and government. What made this experience particularly meaningful for me was seeing an idea I have advocated for years come to life: the evolution of emerging technologies cannot happen in isolation.

I am honored to share that I recently received a Letter of Appreciation recognizing my contributions to international standardization activities at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T). The recognition was conveyed through the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, acknowledging my contributions made via National Working Group 20 (NWG-20) to ITU-T Study Group 20 (SG20) meetings in 2025, 2026. What Was Recognized The appreciation recognizes my technical contributions to two proposals that were officially accepted as New Work Items:

Being a member of the Metaverse-related Working Group at the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, Government of India, I had the privilege of speaking on the topic: “Immersive Intelligent World – The Shift We Are Living Through” My talk focused on how the metaverse is shaping the future of the internet, and how we can begin preparing for this transformation today. I also emphasized the critical role of standards, interoperability, and best practices, and why initiatives like MIPS (Metaverse India Standards & Policy Initiative) are essential for positioning India as a global leader in this space.

As we close 2025 and step into 2026, this moment offers more than a calendar transition—it offers clarity. The past year tested assumptions, accelerated adoption, and forced recalibration across technology, business, and society. For me personally, 2025 was a milestone year. After reflecting on two decades in the industry, I published my second book, Jagjeevan: Living Larger Than Life, in both Hindi and English, while continuing to engage readers through Exploring the Metaverse.

Recently, I had the privilege of representing 🇮🇳 India at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Group 20 (SG20) meeting in Geneva. I’m pleased to share that my recommendations for standardizing requirements for an IoT-based Perishable Goods Monitoring System has been accepted as an official Technical Report. Here’s a brief overview of the experience and its significance. Metaverse: The Next Internet The Metaverse represents the next evolution of the internet, a digital realm where the physical and virtual worlds converge.
