Patent Granted: Manage multiple 2D apps in a 3D layout
- 2 minutes read - 265 wordsIn our day-to-day work, we often create methods, processes, approaches, or features to address specific needs and challenges. Sometimes, these solutions turn into significant innovations, even if we don’t immediately recognize them as such. This is also true in our professional work setup, where we may invent without fully realizing it.
I’m thrilled to share that a new patent has been granted to Lenovo for their groundbreaking work in the ThinkReality XR product line, and I am honored to be a co-inventor on this work.
Patent No : US 11,988,832 B2
This patent, titled “Concurrent Rendering of Canvases for Different Apps as Part of 3D Simulation”, introduces innovative methods for managing 2D applications simultaneously within a 3D environment on AR or VR devices. The patent encompasses various techniques for positioning and interacting with 2D apps in a 3D space, including programmatically transforming 3D inputs into 2D applications and vice versa.
This invention was developed for Lenovo’s award-winning mixed reality smart glasses, the ThinkReality A3.
This innovation allows enterprises to use multiple phone applications on XR devices simultaneously and interact with them in new, innovative ways without altering the 2D phone apps. Part of this solution is also available in the ThinkReality VRX, which supports various enterprise XR features such as Device Enrollment to Intune and VMWare.
